Invisible shield for iPhone

Today I installed an invisible shield on my iPhone. There are a couple of cool things about this; namely they have a lifetime warranty so if something happens to it I get a replacement and the form factor of my iPhone is not impacted.

The cool thing about the iPhone is the incredibly large touch screen. Of course this is also just begging to be scratched. Fortunately having it a bit more protected will keep it in better shape. Installing the invisible shield was a lot easier than I thought it would be even though it is a very time consuming process. As you can see from the attached pictures I thing the overall result is pretty good.

I have to let the shield setup for 24 hours before using it. My big concern is that it will lift on the corners. Hopefully this does not happen though.

Here is what the packaging looks like.

iPhone goodies

No more Apple Bluetooth headset for me. Unfortunately I will be returning the headset that I got for my iPhone due to it being unusable. Apple got every single aspect of this device spot on with the critical exception of the range. You see the device can only be used in very close proximity to the iPhone before it starts developing static and garbling your calls.

To give you an idea of how bad this is I was unable to use the device in my left ear whilst keeping the iPhone in my front right pants pocket. If I had my iPhone sitting in the dock in front of me charging and talked on the headset the sound quality would become incomprehensible if I placed my hand in front of the phone.

The good:
- Awesome size
- Great replacement dock for charging
- Good integration with iPhone

The bad:
- Very weak signal resulting in poor range.

SureFire battery carrier

Anyone who owns a Surefire flashlight knows that they munch batteries like there is no tomorrow. They also know that the best place to buy the batteries from is at the SureFire online store as you can get them for $1.75 a battery as opposed to paying up to $8.00 at the local store. Now lugging boxes of potentially rather toxic (they are made of lithium after all) batteries around is no fun. The boxes don’t last, they fall apart, the batteries spill, generally its just a bad idea.

Closed battery carrierNow the carrier is just awesome!
It’s waterproof, small and best of all carries a spare bulb assembly in it.

At the moment I have the regular bulb in the flashlight and the super bright stored in the carrier!

Car accident.

Today Griselda was in a car accident. Fortunately she is OK (although I suspect that she may have some sort of whiplash).

To make things worse the damage to the car is pretty bad and we are worried that the insurance company may choose to “Write-off” the Jeep instead of repairing it. This truly sucks as the car has been paid-off for over a year now and I am not in the mood to have to make car payments again.

If we choose to replace the Jeep we are looking at approximately $28,000. We could instead choose to go for a lower milage late-model used vehicle where we should be able to get something in the $15,000 to $20,000 price range.

What about an Element?
Another option might be the Honda Element. It has the advantage of being a lot cheaper than a new Jeep Wrangler as well as being a lot more practical for our sort of lifestyle. It does not however have the same fun factor as the Jeep. Still I think it may be the better choice to make.

Still hopefully everything works out with the Jeep and we will not have to replace the car.
